‘Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue’ DVD Review

We recently got the chance to watch a pre-release DVD of the newest installment in the Tinkerbell movie franchise,  ‘Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue‘ thanks to Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Porter Novelli and Aussie Mummy Bloggers. I knew it would be a winner in our household as both girls love to dress up as fairies and recently watched ‘Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure‘ at Nanna’s.

After a nearly agonising wait of two and a half days where Ellie kept insisting it was time, we finally snuggled down to watch it yesterday morning.

The movie follows Tinkerbell as she is discovered and befriended by a lonely young girl named Lizzy.  They form a special bond and unlikely friendship as Tinkerbell’s fairy friends embark on a rescue mission to save her, believing her to be in grave danger.

It is a gorgeous movie, full of vibrant colours, funny moments, likable characters and most importantly, magic. Every little girl’s perfect movie. Kahlei, at 21 months, has never been able to sit through a whole movie and Ellie, at 3, tends to chat a lot when we watch something, but for 73 blissful minutes both girls were completely enthralled. Not a peep was heard and they barely moved and they certainly didn’t take their eyes off the screen!

As an adult and, more importantly, a parent I thought it was simply a beautiful movie. The focus on friendship was gently handled and I even had a tear or two in my eye at some points.

For the final word on the movie, I went to the expert:

Mummy: “Who was your favourite fairy?”
Ellie: “Love Tink”
Mummy: “What did you think of the movie?”
Ellie: “It was my favourite.”

We have already watched it, in full, again which is absolutely awesome for a heavily pregnant mumma to get a break from chasing her busy toddlers!

Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue is set for release on DVD and Blu-ray on September 15th.

Rated: G
Running Time: 73 Mins
