Australia Day 2014 | Wordless Wednesday

We started our Australia Day on North Broulee beach watching 281 surfers attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most surfers riding the same wave. Organised by Surf the Bay surf school, with all funds raised going to the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club and the Westpac Life Saver rescue helicopter, it was a beautiful morning and quite a spectacle! Whether they break the record or not, it was a great event to be part of. In a spectating capacity. Because I haven’t the coordination for surfing. The videos are still being reviewed, apparently it can take up to a week before we find out if they made it. I am putting my money on yes.

After that we headed for Canberra to hang with Nanna and watch the fireworks.

  1. Looks like a great day. Lets hope it is a yes on the record breaking – how cool is that.

    • It was a great day, Jacana! In my mind I feel certain they did it, and even if they didn’t it was pretty amazing.

  2. Man I’m glad I wasn’t in the water when that was going on – LOVE their enthusiasm though! Did they make it. Great firework pics and tats, I wonder where they got their love of tats from??? 😉 xxx

    • They had the area blocked off, so those who were in the water at the same time didn’t get tangled up in the attempt. The officials haven’t yet said how they did. Apparently, it might take up to a month to review all the footage.
As for tats, I don’t know WHAT you’re talking about 😉 Actually, they’re all pretty against actual real tattoos – especially if I want them!

  3. What an awesome event to be at. Fingers crossed they get it.
We stayed down at the beach, great atmosphere for Australia Day. Looks like we were sporting the same tattoos 🙂

  4. What a great day! I do love fireworks. We were at a Sport and Rec camp at broken bay, so we did a ropes course, archery and surf skiing, then had a bonfire on the beach. It was great.
