A Sick Mother’s Day

Mother's Day gifts

I am one lucky mumma!

If you’ve been following along with Clairey Hewitt’s Blog Everyday in May you might (or might not) have noticed I fell off the wagon in the middle of last week. I woke during the night last Tuesday with the worst, WORST sore throat I’ve ever suffered.

After two and a half nights of no sleep, barely being able to eat or swallow and with nothing taking the edge off my pain I hightailed it to the doctors while James dealt with prospective buyers inspecting the house and entertained Jasper.

The doc took one look and said “Yes, that looks … horrible.” gave me scripts for penicillin and Panadine Forte and sent me to have a blood test to confirm if it was tonsillitis or glandular fever (still waiting).

I was pretty unhappy that I was headed into my Mother’s Day weekend feeling so bad and went to bed before 7 on Friday night.

Luckily a little penicillin and codeine goes a long way and we were able to spend Mother’s Day in Canberra with my mum and youngest brother and, I think it’s up there with the best. I was able to sleep in, James made bacon and eggs and we just hung out. Looking through photos, watching House Rules, chatting and just being. I was spoilt with gorgeous gifts and Mum made us a gorgeous roast lamb for lunch before we headed home. It was kind of perfect for a sickie.

I’ve come home pretty shattered and my throat is still not playing nice but I’m so glad we made the trip.

What did you do for Mother’s Day?
Have you kept on the Blog everyday in May bandwagon?

  1. Aww Becky you poor thing! I hope you don’t have glandular fever! I had it when I was 16 and it took me a while to get over t and included a lot of bed rest and herbal remedies to get my body to try and heal itself. I’m glad you still got to have a nice Mothers Day though. We stayed home and I got spoilt with a sleep in, gifts and lots of cuddles from my daughters.

    • Thanks Bec, it’s been confirmed as tonsillitis thankfully, I don’t have the time for lots of bed rest and you often hear of glandular fever returning, so I am glad!
Sounds like you had the perfect Mother’s Day!

  2. Yes I did notice but lots have dropped off, it’s bloody hard at the best of times, despite the fact you’re bloody sick! That is an impressive stash? I want the Liz Arden stuff! Em (also visiting at part of #teamIBOT)

    • I can imagine only a few will truly make it through, it IS tough! Even with prompts it’s hard to come up with things to say, let alone the time to do it!
It is an impressive stash, I have to say I was very impressed. I think all the training is FINALLY paying off 😉

  3. I hope you are feeling better by now. I have been feeling rather off colour for about a week but nothing has developed – I keep telling my body – either get sick or get better – this half half is a pain !!!
We had my folks, K’s boyfriend and BIL/SIL over for dinner as her boys both live away from the GC. I told Dad that next year we should just go out to dinner – it’s a lot less work !!! Roast beef and roast lamb, roast potatoes and pumpkin, broccoli & cauliflour, gravy, mint sauce and cheese sauce with lumberjack cake and custard for dessert !!!
A did make K and I pancakes for breakfast on Sunday as it was her birthday yesterday and we both had to work so didn’t do breakfast with her yesterday.
    Have a great day !

    • I hope you’re feeling better now. I hate that in-between when you’re waiting to get sick.
I think going out sounds like the way to go, it’s nice and so much less work for mums but your roast does sound delicious. I’ve not heard of lumberjack cake, might have to look it up! Sounds like you had a great day.

  4. Oh sweets, the lurgy going about is one of the WORST. We have just come out of 2 weeks of man flu troubles… which I also caught as well as my 3 boys. It was the pits. Good you’ve got some serious drugs! Hope you have a speedy recovery and perhaps you’ll get back to the blogging every day thing – something I didn’t even attempt it because I know myself too well and that I would flake out! 😉

    • James is just coming down with man flu now that I am leaving the fog behind. It’s all a bit ridiculous, really. I hope you’re all fully recovered and still well! I hate when someone gets over an illness just in time for a new one to come home.
